Real-Time Case Status, WhatsApp Updates Channel: Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench Launches Mobile App To Make Court Services Accessible

The Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, has launched its official mobile application, the GHCKB App, to help make court information easier, faster, and more accessible for the public.The app was launched on Wednesday by Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Bar Room, Kohima, in the presence of Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi and Justice Arun Dev Choudhury.While delivering his inaugural address, Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar said the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench is the first High Court in the Northeast to roll out such an application, and highlighted that it was made entirely in-house. Calling the app citizen-friendly, he said it will help people track cases in real time, get updates, and stay informed even from remote places.He added, “It gives you a realtime status of cases. It makes tracking of cases very easy for lawyers and litigates. It is convenient for the judiciary. It is a reconfirmation of our commitment to make judiciary accessible, fair and transparent… The advantages of this app travels beyond convenience. It's something which makes the system very transparent.”He encouraged the Bar and young lawyers to make full use of the platform and reminded the gathering that the Kohima Bench has produced many distinguished advocates. He added, “You are not in a forgotten corner; you are part of the mainstream.”Welcoming those present, Ajongba Imchen, Registrar, Kohima Bench, said the launch was an important milestone. He stated, “Ladies and gentlemen, to this indeed a momentous occasion for all of us… These applications serve as a bridge between the court, the bar and the litigates… By ensuring that information is available with ease, speed and transparency, we are empowering every member of the legal fraternity to function more efficiently.”He also thanked the Chief Justice for his continued support and presence at the event.Sharing an overview of the app development process, Boduve Peter Resu, Joint Registrar (Judicial) & CPC eCourts Project, said the app had been built keeping ordinary citizens in mind. He explained that many people find it difficult to locate cause lists, orders, livestream links, or case status online.He said, “With these practical difficulties in mind, we have worked to develop this mobile application as a response to some of these challenges… This is far from being a perfect or a final product, but it certainly is a beginning, a foundation of what is to come. I like to think of our mobile app as a living organism, one that will continue to grow and improve with the feedback we receive.”A short video presentation during the event noted that as per TRAI's Telecom Dashboard (March 2025), 95.22% of internet users in India access the internet through mobile devices, underscoring the need for mobile-based access to court services.The GHCKB App currently provides:- Daily cause lists- Real-time case status- Livestreaming links for court proceedings- Display board information- Orders and notices- Access to High Court and district court websites- A WhatsApp updates channelThe app is available on the Google Play Store.
