    The Gujarat High Court on Thursday issued a notice to six police officers - Bajana police inspector V N Jadeja, and his subordinates Rajeshbhai Savajibhai, Kirtibhai Ganeshbhai, Digvijaysinh Hardipsinh, Prahladbhai Prabhubhai and Manubhai Govindbhai in a public interest litigation (PIL) related to killing of a person and his 14 year old son in a police encounter in Patdi taluka of Surendranagar district in 2021.

    The matter was listed before a division bench of Acting Chief Justice A J Desai and Justice Biren Vaishnav.

    The petitioner in this case, Sohanaben Hanifkhan Malek, has sought a probe into the killing of her father Hanifkhan Jat Malek (44) and her brother Madin (14) and alleged that the Bajana police lodged a false FIR against the deceased, his family members and neighbours insead of registering an FIR against the cops involved in the encounter.

    On 06.11.2021, the police officers allegedly arrived at the Petitioner's house in a private vehicle, forcefully took her father and put him in the vehicle.

    The Petitioner's 14-year-old brother followed his father and allegedly was shot point-blank in the chest. Upon seeing his son being shot, the Petitioner's father became angry and was also shot dead, as per the petition before court. 

    ​​The matter is again listed on June 19.
