Jammu & Kashmir And Ladakh High Court To Hold Full Court Reference On Chief Justice Arun Palli's Elevation To Supreme Court

The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh will hold a Full Court Reference on Monday (June 1) to bid farewell to Chief Justice Arun Palli following his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
For context, the Centre early on Monday morning notified the elevation of five persons, inlcuding Justice Palli, as judges of the Supreme Court.
As per a High Court notification, the ceremonial reference has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. in the Chief Justice's Court Room at the Srinagar Wing of the High Court. The event will mark Chief Justice Palli's departure from the High Court after his elevation to the country's highest court.
The afarewell proceedings will commence with an address by the Advocate General. This will be followed by a farewell address from the President of the Kashmir Advocates Association, Srinagar, on behalf of the members of the Bar of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Thereafter, Justice Sanjeev Kumar will deliver a farewell address, followed by Chief Justice's speech.
Justice Arun Palli was appointed Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh in April 2025. During his tenure, he presided over several important constitutional, civil, criminal, and administrative matters and headed the judiciary of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Prior to this elevation, Justice Palli served as a judge at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Born on September 18, 1964, he comes from a distinguished legal family, his father, Prem Kishan Palli, was a Senior Advocate and later a judge at the Himachal Pradesh High Court, retiring in 1998.
Justice Palli completed his commerce degree and obtained his law degree from Panjab University in 1988. He began his legal career at the Punjab and Haryana High Court and was appointed Additional Advocate General for Punjab from 2004 to 2007. Recognized for his expertise, he was designated as a Senior Advocate the same year.
