Kerala High Court Denies Anticipatory Bail To Intelligence Officer Accused Of Abetting Girlfriend's Suicide

The Kerala High Court on Monday (May 26) denied anticipatory bail to Sukanth Suresh, an intelligence officer allegedly involved in the suicide of his girlfiriend/colleague.Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas noted that the investigation has revealed that the officer had relationships with other women. Further, it was also found out that the deceased got pregnant from the petitioner and she had undergone abortion. The Court also took into account the fact that the deceased used to transfer her salary to the petitioner every month.The investigating officer had informed the Court that there were evidence to show that the petitioner had maintained relationships with other women and forced the petitioner to commit suicide."It transpires, at least prima facie that the petitioner was in a position of control or dominance over the deceased and was repeatedly prompting her to take her life in order to get married to another lady. The petitioner had even coerced the deceased to fix a date when she will take her life and repeatedly abused her as revealed from the chat history retrieved from one of the deleted accounts of her phone seized during investigation," the court said. Though the bail application was filed as early on April 3, Sukanth has not been arrested yet. The State on being enquired informed the Court that they could not trace the person. Megha Madhusoodhanan, a Security Assistant/ Executive with the Bureau of Immigration at Trivandrum Airport reportedly died by suicide by jumping in front of a train in Pettah Railway station. The family alleges that she was financially exploited by Sukanth and a major portion of her salary was transferred to him. The family also alleged that the deceased took the extreme step after Sukanth withdrew from the relationship. On the other side, Sukanth alleged that the pressure from the family to withdraw from the relationship forced her to take the extreme step.Counsel for the Petitioner: Advocates C. P.
