Wife Of Lakshadweep Man Who Allegedly Went Missing From Police Custody Moves Kerala High Court Seeking SIT Probe

A plea has been moved before the Kerala High Court by the wife of a man who allegedly went missing while in police custody in Lakshadweep.His wife, a permanent resident of Lakshadweep has approached the Court seeking to set up a special investigation team headed by the Superintendent of Police, Lakshadweep to investigate the disappearance of her husband, while he was under police custody. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas has sought instructions in the matter and posted it on November 26. As per the plea, there were some matrimonial issues between the petitioner-wife and her husband during which he slapped her. It was stated that hearing this noise, the neighbours informed the police and he was taken into police custody on October 09. The plea alleged that on October 10, when the petitioner went to the police station, she was informed that her husband was taken to the hospital by the police since he behaved like an abnormal man. The plea stated that the petitioner and her family could not trace the whereabouts of her husband on reaching the hospital. She further stated that news was spreading in the island that her husband went missing in the sea. The petitioner submitted that the police were not disclosing any details regarding her husband. She alleged that the Block development officer prepared an incident report claiming that her husband was abnormal and jumped into the sea while he was under police custody. She further submitted that the authorities were trying to make false and fabricated narratives regarding the mental status of her husband. The petitioner alleged that an FIR was registered at Chetlat police station by the Station House Officer on November 12 stating that the petitioner's husband was missing. She stated that the police had wilfully omitted the fact that her husband went missing while he was under police custody.The petitioner thus seeks a fair and impartial investigation by a Special Investigation Team into her husband's disappearance. “it is evident that the petitioner's husband was missing from the police custody, but the police persons were hiding what exactly happened when he was under police custody. Now the very same case is investigated by the very same culprits along with other police officials who are also present in the Chetlat police station at that point in time.
