The HC had earlier directed IGP Ernakulam range to consider the producer's representation who had alleged improper behaviour by the Deputy SP
The Kerala High Court has asked the State to verify compliance of its earlier order directing consideration of a representation by film producer Sheela Kurian seeking action against Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhu Babu for his alleged misbehaviour towards her.
In December, the high court had directed the Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam range to consider Kurian's representation seeking action against DSP Babu alleging improper behaviour by him when she visited his office in connection with a criminal complaint.
Justice Jobin Sebastian was considering a contempt plea filed by Sheela Kurian for alleged non-compliance with the Court's December 2025 order directing the Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam range to consider the representation.
When the matter came up on May 29, the public prosecutor took notice on behalf of G. Sparjan Kumar IPS, Inspector General of Police (Ernakulam Range). The Court then granted a month's time to verify whether its order has been complied with:
"The learned Public Prosecutor takes notice for the 1st respondent and seeks time to get instructions in this matter. The learned Public Prosecutor shall verify whether the order of this Court has been complied with. Post on 30/06/2026."
The film producer had preferred a writ petition alleging that she was called into the office of the DySP on February 19 in connection with another criminal complaint that she had preferred and that when she went there at about 6 p.m., Madhu, who was acting as the DySP, verbally abused and behaved rudely to her.
After the incident, on February 24, she filed a complaint before the District Police Chief but the same has not yet been acted upon and no FIR has been registered yet.
Though she preferred representations before the Secretary to the government, the State Police Chief, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), and the Inspector General of Police (IG) on September 24, no action was taken on these, it is stated. Aggrieved, she had come before the High Court seeking consideration of her representations.
She had sought for the Court's interference stating that since the complaint was made against a senior police officer having influence, the enquiry and investigation against him should be headed by the Police Chief, ADGP and IG.
The petition is moved by Advocates Manu Ramachandran, M. Kiranlal, R. Rajesh (Varkala), Sameer M. Nair, Sailakshmi Menon, Binitha Maria Thomas, Kezil Thottukadavil Cherian & Akza Susan Bency
