The Kerala High Court has translated more than 317 of its judgments in Malayalam and published the same on its website.

The Court has been able to achieve this milestone under the guidance of Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, Chairman of the Committee in charge of Computerization, and Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V and Dr. Justice Kauser Edappagath, members of the Artificial Intelligence Assisted Legal Translation Advisory Committee.

The Court had started publishing judgments translated to Malayalam language on test basis in February 2023, by making two judgments of the Division Bench comprising the then Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Justice Shaji P. Chaly available in the regional language. It had thereby become the first High Court to commence publication of its decisions in the local language, as well.

The Court has now decided to translate and make available all judgements certified for reporting in Malayalam language, in a bid to increase transparency, ensure access to justice for all, and promote public awareness of the law by ensuring the wide dissemination of Court judgments.

In the District Judiciary presently, around 5186 judgments have been translated to Malayalam and are made available on the official websites of District Courts.

'Anuvadini', an artificial intelligence (AI) tool developed by the AICTE, Ministry of Education, Government of India is being utilized for the translation of judgments.

The High Court also proposes to share translated versions to Legal Services Authorities for imparting legal education and awareness, to various government departments and other stakeholders including the litigants.
