The Regional Officer of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has filed a counter affidavit before the Kerala High Court stating that the Board's Chairperson has referred the movie 'Kaalam Paranja Kadha' to its Revising Committee.
Justice Bechu Kurian was considering a plea challenging the release of the movie filed by the father of the accused person in the Venjaramoodu Mass Murder case alleging that the movie is inspired by the case and its release would affect the impending trial.
During the last posting, the CBFC had taken a stand that the release of the movie would not affect the fair trial of the movie and that there were many differences between the prosecution case and the movie's storyline.
The CBFC's counsel had also submitted that the report by the Examination committee was sent to the CBFC for approval and the CBFC is yet to certify it. The Court had then posted the matter to today to obtain the report of the CBFC.
As per the counter, the movie was screened on February 8 and a report was sent by the Examination Committee to the CBFC.
It is further stated that the Chairperson of the CBFC referred the movie to the Revising Committee as per Rule 24(1) of the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, 1983. Thereafter, a notice was sent to the producer of the movie on Wednesday (February 11) mentioning about the reference and informing that the date, time and examination of the film will be intimated later.
When the matter came up for consideration today, the representing counsel told the Court that a counter has been filed. The petitioner's counsel then requested before the Court that he may be permitted to watch the movie while it is screened before the Revising Committee. However, the since the CBFC's counsel was not present, the Court posted the case for next Tuesday (February 24).
The plea is moved by Advocates Sajju V. and Ajmal A.
