Madras High Court Declines Mansoor Ali Khan's Plea To File Defamation Suit Against Actors Trisha, Khushboo & Chiranjeevi, Imposes ₹1 Lakh Costs

Justice N Satish Kumar remarked that the actor had approached the court for publicity and imposed a cost of Rs. 1 Lakh to be paid to Adyar Cancer Institute. The court also remarked that it was normal for humans to react in the manner in which the actors had reacted when such derogatory comments were made against women and the same did not call for filing of a defamation suit.

Khan had made misogynistic and disrespectful remarks against his co-actor Trisha in a press meeting following the success of the Tamil movie “Leo”. The remarks were widely criticized with Trisha, Khushboo, and Chiranjeevi commenting on social media expressing their displeasure and condemning the statements.

Following this, Khan has now approached the Madras High Court saying that actors Trisha, Khushboo, and Chiranjeevi had made defamatory statements in public without properly verifying or ascertaining the truth. Khan also submitted that he had merely commented about the negative characters that he had played and not made personal comments. He had thus sought damages of Rs. 1 crore each from the actors.

Previously, the court had criticized Khan for approaching the court after making such derogatory statements. The court had commented that it should have been Trisha approaching the court against Khan. The court had remarked that Khan should know how to behave in public especially when the young people were following actors as their role models.

The Chennai police had also filed a case against Khan under Section 354A and 509 of the IPC. Though an anticipatory bail petition was moved by Khan, it was rejected by the court for being bereft of case details. Khan also made a public apology for his statements which was also accepted by Trisha.
