Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA from Sholinganallur assembly constituency, Saravanan, also known as ECR Saravanan, has approached the Madras High Court seeking to quash an FIR registered against him over the erection of banners 'unauthorisedly'.

On Monday (October 12), Justice V Lakshminarayanan allowed an application by the MLA seeking to dispense with the production of the original FIR and directed the registry to number the plea for quashing the FIR.

The FIR was registered against Saravanan on November 30, 2025, for erecting banners of the TVK party without obtaining the necessary permission from the police.

As per the FIR, on November 30, when the Inspector of Police, Neelankarai Police Station, was on patrolling duty, he came across banners of the party that were erected near a marriage hall on KK Road without any permission. Upon enquiry, the police came to know that the banners were erected at the behest of Saravanan. Thus, the police had suo motu registered an FIR against Saravanan for an offence under Section 3 of the Tamil Nadu Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1959.
