The Rajasthan High Court has directed the authorities to take immediate steps to stop illegal constructions in Jaipur and restore the heritage character of the Pink City.

A division bench of Justice Inderjeet Singh and Justice Sandeep Taneja, hearing a petition seeking action against illegal constructions in the Walled City of Jaipur, directed the Commissioner, Nagar Nigam Jaipur, to look into the matter and ensure that all constructions being carried out without requisite approval are stopped.

The petitioner submitted that illegal constructions by various persons in the Walled City were adversely affecting its heritage character.

Observing that the Walled City of Jaipur was established nearly 300 years ago and is recognised as one of the world's finest heritage cities, the Court directed that, in the first phase, illegal constructions on the city's major roads be stopped. These include Kishanpole Bazaar Road, Choura Rasta, Johri Bazaar Road, and the stretch from Chandpol Bazaar to Badi Chopad via Tripolia Gate and Chhoti Chopad.

The bench further directed the respondents to take appropriate steps to restore the heritage look of the Pink City. The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 7, 2026.
