Justice A Muhamed Mustaque Sworn In As Chief Justice Of Sikkim High Court

Justice A Muhamed Mustaque was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Sikkim High Court on Sunday (January 4).

Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur administered the oath of office to Justice A Muhamed Mustaque.

Justice Mustaque is a native of Thana in Kannur District. He has obtained Law Degree from V.B College of Law, Udupi and later completed his LL.M from MG University in Labour Law. After enrolling as a lawyer in 1989, he practiced for 7 years before various Courts and Statutory authorities in Kannur. He later obtained his second masters from Paris XI University in Space and Telecommunication Law in a funded programme of French Government. He has also did a course on Private International Law at Hague Academy of International Law and has completed an advance course on e-commerce and Intellectual Property from WIPO.

Justice Mustaque is trained as a mediator by European Team from U.K. and also by MCPC of Supreme Court of India. He has several international publications to his credit including papers presented at International Astronautical Congress held in Hyderabad, Daejon in Korea and Naples in Italy. He has also attended various professional advancement courses, international conferences and workshop on subject relating to law.

His professional career includes his practice as litigation lawyer, arbitrator and served as a Mediator of Kerala Mediation Center. He has also served as the standing Counsel for Kannur University, appeared for educational institutions, telecom companies, local authorities etc. His has practised in civil , commercial constitutional, administrative service, criminal, telecommunication, IP and IT Laws. He was a faculty for training on mediation with IIAM (Indian Institute of Arbitration and Mediation), Panel Arbitrator of ICADR AND IIAM and Member of International Institute of Space Law and Indian Society of International Law. He has worked as a Managing Editor of online news legal news letter L.I.N.K. Published from Luxembourg, Charter Member and Treasurer of India International ADR Association and Secretary of Mediators' Council of India.

Justice Mustaque has sworn in as Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court on 23rd January, 2014 and was later appointed as a permanent Judge of the Kerala High Court with effect from 10-03-2016. He was also appointed as acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court on 05.07.2024.
