    The Telangana High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the menace of missing children after the State was ranked 8th nationwide in the count of missing children.

    The Division Bench of Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Anil Kumar Jukanti have taken cognizance of the matter following a news article published in the Times of India English daily Newspaper, Hyderabad City Edition on 11th December.

    “This public interest litigation has been registered on the basis of a news item published in Times of India English daily Newspaper, Hyderabad City Edition dated 11.12.2023.”

    The article stated that at least 10 children go missing in the State daily and that about 4000 children remain untraced. The news item also stated that in 2022, 65 children had gone missing within the State, out of which 391 were girls.

    Special Government pleader, and senior advocate, Harendar Pershad accepted notice on behalf of the State.
