    Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta on Saturday (January 10) took oath as Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. His oath was administered by the Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General (Rtd) Gurmit Singh.

    While serving as the senior-most judge (after the Chief Justice), Justice Gupta was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium for elevation to the office of the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court on 18th December, 2025.

    On 8th January, 2026, the Central Government notified his name for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court upon the retirement of Chief Justice Guhanathan Narendar.

    Justice Gupta graduated in Law from Lucknow University in 1987. He enrolled himself as an Advocate on December 06, 1987.

    He practised mainly in Civil, Rent Control and Constitutional matters. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad HC on Apr 12, 2013. He took the oath as a Permanent Judge on April 10, 2015.
