    Studio Nilima: Collaborative Network for Research and Capacity Building (Studio Nilima), is an action research collective based in Guwahati, Assam, working at the intersections of law, policy, and governance which invites applications for the post of Legal Service Fellow for the Studio Nilima Correctional Home Fellowship Program 2022 and to join the team working at Pratidhwani.

    About Pratidhwani (the Echo)

    • Pratidhwani (the Echo) is a core initiative at Studio Nilima, which engages with the correctional homes of Assam. Since 2017, Studio Nilima has been at the forefront in bridging the gap in access to justice for the marginalized and vulnerable inmates by making routine visits to the correctional homes of Assam. Through these visits, we have made an attempt at understanding and improving prison conditions through dialogues with stakeholders who form the prison ecosystem and support rehabilitation efforts of inmates into society. A major part of our intervention in the correctional homes has been through providing effective legal representation to the inmates and also pursuing strategic litigations to address the structural deficiencies within the correctional home apparatus.

    Name of the Post: Legal Service Fellow

    Remuneration: Remuneration for the position(s) shall correspond with the work experience of the Candidate.

    Essential Qualification and Experience

    • An LL.B./B.A.LL.B. degree from a university recognized by the Bar Council of India.

    • Enrolment with any State Bar Council.

    • Litigation experience of at least 2-3 years (s).

    • Fluency in spoken and written English. Candidates with intermediate fluency in spoken and written Assamese will be given preference.

    Responsibilities and Expectations

    • Draft criminal appeals, review petitions, writ petitions, applications, affidavits, and other legal documents.

    • Assisting senior counsels.

    • Formulate and strategize legal intervention.

    • Accompany the team in regular visits to the correctional homes.

    • Establish continued communication with stakeholders within the prison ecosystem such as officers, inmates, legal aid authorities, etc.

    • Contribute to the research and knowledge output of Studio Nilima, along with organizing workshops and conferences.

    • Any other work that may be assigned to them related to the mandate of Studio Nilima.

    Terms of Employment and Remuneration

    • The Position(s) are full-time and based in Guwahati.

    • The period of the Fellowship will be from June 2022 to May 2023.
