The wife of a Gurugram additional sessions judge died early on Sunday, hours after she and her 18-year-old son were shot at by the judge’s personal security officer in Gurugram.

The incident took place at a busy market place in sector 49, where the wife and son of additional sessions judge Krishan Kant Sharma had gone shopping. While two bullets were pumped into Ritu’s chest and stomach from point-blank range, Dhruv was shot thrice, once on the shoulder and twice in the head.

Video footage of the incident recorded by a witness shows Mahipal trying to push the son inside the car as he laid lifeless on the road. He left the duo and drove off after two failed attempts. He is also understood to have called the judge soon after, telling him that he shot the judge’s wife and son.

The two were then rushed to Medanta Hospital, where the wife succumbed to her injuries. The son is reportedly in critical condition.

The gunman, Mahipal Singh, had been posted with the judge for the past two years. He was arrested from Faridabad a little after the incident. Police officials are now interrogating him to determine the reason behind the shooting.

Initial investigation apparently suggests that Mahipal was upset with the behaviour meted out to him by the judge’s family and had been suffering from depression.
