The Kerala Police team, which investigated the Kerala Nirbhaya case, has arrested the prime accused suspected to be involved in the case. The incident pertains to the rape and murder of a law student in Perumbavoor, Kerala. The incident occurred during the last week of April, 2016.

The accused who has been arrested has been identified as a migrant worker from Assam. The investigating agency is stated to have recovered a pair of foot wears belonging to the accused smeared with the blood stains of the deceased, nailing him to the case.

When the new government was sworn in, priority was mooted in taking pro-active steps, to ensure proper and speedy investigation in the matter. Accordingly at the first cabinet meeting of the new ministry, a new investigation team was reconstituted with a senior lady officer, Mrs B.Sandhya I.P.S, Additional Director General of Police as its head.

Though public spirited persons, approached the High Court of Kerala, seeking C.B.I investigation, the court had declined the same. Noting that the investigation was progressing under a new team, the court refused the prayer to shift the same to another agency. You may read the Live Law story in this regard here.
