Former K&S Equity Partner Sets Up Law Firm

"I plan to establish a boutique practice, focusing on Intellectual Property, Information Technology and Litigation," says Priya. The law firm, Priya Rao & Associates was officially launched on 1^st of January 2021.

Priya is the Founder and the Managing Partner of the Firm. With over 23 years of experience, she has advised and represented several Fortune 500 Companies in India and internationally. She specializes across the IP laws in helping clients with a broad range of legal matters including prosecution and enforcement of Trademarks, Copyright, Geographical Indication, and Design. Priya has also advised several clients and handled matters on e-commerce, cybercrime, and data protection.

While Priya is humbled by her experience of working in the top-tier law firms, she is excited about the journey that lies ahead as an entrepreneur. The firm currently has another Partner, Ms. R. Rajalakshmi, who also brings with her over 15 years of experience working in top-tier IP law firms. Rajalakshmi handles both contentious and non-contentious trademark, copyright, and GI matters. The core team also comprises of a Trademark Agent and a senior Litigating Counsel. Speaking of growing the team, Priya says she is putting together a team of Patent agents and attorneys to handle Patent prosecution and litigation.

Over the course of her practice, Priya and Rajalakshmi have represented and advised clients from diverse industries including FMCG, luxury goods, hospitality, software company, pharmaceutical, medical device, confectionery, automobile, electronic etc.

Priya is currently serving as a member of the Anti-counterfeiting Committee and Rajalakshmi is serving as a member of the Geographical Indications Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA). Both Priya and Rajalakshmi regularly speak at various conferences and events on IP and tech issues.
