    Karanjawala & Co. has promoted Ms. Tahira Karanjawala as its 11th Partner in the Firm with effect from 24.08.2023.

    Tahira Karanjawala, holds a law degree from Amity Law School, New Delhi, and became an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in 2010. After completing her Masters in Law from Columbia Law School in 2011-2012, she also became a registered Attorney in the State of New York.


    With over 12 years of experience, she specializes in dispute resolution, handling civil and commercial cases in various Indian courts, including the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court, as well as before arbitral tribunals. Her expertise encompasses company disputes, contractual issues, property and real estate litigation, arbitration, insolvency and bankruptcy, and mining law.

    In 2020, she qualified as an Advocate on Record at the Supreme Court of India, ranking 1st in the AoR Examination of 2019. Her achievements include a Gold Medal from the Supreme Court's Board of Examiners, a Certificate of Honour from the Mukesh Goswami Memorial Fund, and the P.R. Kumaramangalam running trophy and O.P. Malhotra Award.

    Recognized for her outstanding contributions, she received the Delhi Young Achievers Award from the Young FICCI Ladies Organisation in 2022-2023 and the Legal Era Women in Law Excellence Award in 2021.

    Whilst studying in college she trained briefly with Late Mr. Arun Jaitley, Senior Advocate, and Late Mr. G.E. Vahanvati, Attorney General for India. In the years she spent in the Firm she was mentored by and in the teams of Ms. Nandini Gore, Senior Partner and Ms. Meghna Mishra, Partner, but has also in the last few years worked closely with Ms. Ruby Singh Ahuja, Senior Partner on several important and high-profile matters.

    She has worked on cases of commercial and public importance including:

    • Appeared on behalf of Tata Sons and was in the forefront of the Tata-Mistry corporate battle.
    • Appeared on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community in a batch of cases filed asserting an equal right of marriage, which was heard by the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court.
    • Appeared on behalf of Tata Steel in its takeover of Bhushan Steel under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code.
    • Appeared on behalf of the erstwhile royal families of Gwalior, Baroda and Indore in various property disputes with other factions of such royal families and against State Governments.
    • Defended MSD Pharmaceuticals (the Indian Counterpart of Merck) in a public interest litigation which had sought to challenge licenses granted to its vaccine, Gardasil which aims at preventing cervical cancer.
    • Appeared on behalf of Tata Steel to resume mining various mines in the State of Odisha which had been suspended.
    • Appeared on behalf of Nusli Wadia in litigation against the Raheja group pertaining to development of land situated at Malad.
    • Appeared on behalf of Tata Motors in its litigation against the State of West Bengal in relation to the Nano project which was intended to be undertaken in Singur.
    • Appeared on behalf of the ex-communicated members of the Dawoodi Bohra Community in a petition challenging the Syedna’s power of ex-communication, which was heard by the Constitution Bench.
