The Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, is set to organise the 14th edition of the Ram Manohar Lohiya Parliamentary Debate (RMLPD) from April 10 to April 12, 2026, in an offline format at its campus.

RMLPD, the flagship debating tournament of the university's Debate and Discussion Committee, has emerged as one of the most prestigious national-level parliamentary debating competitions in India. Over the years, it has consistently attracted participation from leading National Law Universities and premier institutions across the country, establishing itself as a benchmark event in the Indian debating circuit.

The tournament will be conducted in the British Parliamentary format, wherein four teams comprising two speakers each compete on motions announced for each round. The competition will follow a League plus Knockout structure, ensuring rigorous competition across multiple stages. In addition to debaters, adjudicators will also compete in parallel, with opportunities to qualify for judging the final rounds.

The tournament marks a return to the offline format after earlier editions were conducted virtually. This shift is expected to enhance the competitive experience by restoring the immediacy, intensity, and interpersonal engagement that are central to parliamentary debating.

Over its thirteen previous editions, RMLPD has hosted participants from a wide range of reputed institutions, including National Law Universities, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, National University of Singapore, Monash University Malaysia, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, National Law University Delhi, Gujarat National Law University, Hidayatullah National Law University, St Stephen's College Delhi, Miranda House Delhi, Hindu College Delhi, Symbiosis University Pune, Christ University Bangalore, among others, reflecting its wide national and international participation base.

The event is being organised under the guidance of Vice-Chancellor Dr. Amar Pal Singh, with Dr. Rajneesh Kumar Yadav (Associate Professor and Chairperson) and Dr. Amandeep Singh (Assistant Professor and Faculty Coordinator) playing key roles in its organisation. The student convenors for the tournament are Vaibudha Brighu and Vinayak Tiwari.

With its strong institutional participation, high adjudication standards, and emphasis on intellectual engagement, RMLPD continues to provide a platform for sharp discourse, advocacy training, and networking among some of the country's finest student debaters.
