NLU Odisha Invites Applications For Ph.D. Programme 2026-27; Entrance Test On May 10

National Law University Odisha (NLUO), Cuttack has invited applications for admission to its Ph.D. Programme (2026–2027) in Law and Interdisciplinary subjects.
As per the notification, the University has announced a total of 25 seats, including 20 seats in Ph.D. in Law and 5 seats in Interdisciplinary programmes with Law, with provisions for both full-time and part-time enrolment.
The admission process will be conducted in three stages, namely entrance examination, evaluation of research synopsis, and oral presentation. Candidates who have qualified NET/JRF/M.Phil. are exempted from appearing in the entrance test and may directly proceed to the research proposal stage.
The Ph.D. entrance examination is scheduled to be held on May 10, 2026, and will consist of a 100-mark paper, including objective questions on research methodology and law subjects, along with descriptive questions. Candidates securing at least 50% marks will qualify for the next stage.
Applicants seeking admission to the Ph.D. in Law programme must possess an LL.M. degree with at least 55% marks, while candidates applying for interdisciplinary programmes must have relevant qualifications in law along with social sciences, humanities, or management. A relaxation of 5% marks is provided for SC/ST and specially-abled candidates.
The notification also specifies that all applicants are required to submit a research synopsis (maximum 2000 words) outlining their proposed area of research. Final selection will be based on the evaluation of the synopsis and performance in the viva voce.
For full-time scholars, the minimum duration of residence is 28 months, and the University currently offers a monthly stipend of ₹30,000, subject to conditions.
The last date to submit online applications is April 20, 2026, while the hard copy of the application must reach the University by April 28, 2026. The final list of selected candidates will be published on July 10, 2026, and the last date for admission is July 20, 2026.
The entrance test will be conducted across multiple centres including Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Cuttack, among others.
