NUSRL Ranchi Announces 2nd Surana & Surana National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition 2025–26

The Competition will be conducted in Hybrid Mode, with Virtual Rounds commencing from 15 February 2026 and On-Campus Rounds scheduled on 14 & 15 March 2026 at the NUSRL campus, Ranchi.

About NUSRL

The National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi was established under an Act of the State Legislature in furtherance of the constitutional vision that law and legal institutions play a pivotal role in the social, political, and economic development of the nation.

Located in Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand, NUSRL aims to provide holistic legal education with special emphasis on advocacy, judicial services, legal institutions, legislative drafting, law reforms, and research. With a progressive teaching–learning methodology, the University strives to meet global standards in legal education.

About the Competition

The Surana & Surana & NUSRL National Criminal Law Moot Court Competition is conceived to promote a systematic and scientific understanding of substantive and procedural criminal law.

The Competition seeks to encourage critical engagement with evolving criminal jurisprudence and contemporary legal challenges. Through memorial drafting and rigorous oral advocacy rounds, participants will gain practical exposure to courtroom dynamics and complex criminal law issues.

Eligibility

· Open to all students enrolled bonafide in an undergraduate law programme or its equivalent conducted by a recognized institution

· No cap on the number of participating teams per university

Team Composition

· Each team shall consist of minimum two (2) and maximum three (3) members

o Two Speakers and one Researcher

· Teams of three must designate any two members as Speakers

· One member must be designated as the Primary Contact Person

· Change in team composition or roles after registration shall not be permitted except with prior approval of the organizers

· Winning Team: ₹24,000

· Runner-Up Team: ₹12,000

· Best Memorial: ₹6,000

· Second Best Memorial: ₹4,000

· Best Student Advocate: ₹5,000

· Second Best Student Advocate: ₹3,000

In addition, plaques and certificates shall be awarded.
All participants will receive Certificates of Participation.
