    NALSAR University of Law in collaboration with the Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust successfully organized the 15th NALSAR – Justice B.R. Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition 2022, from 14th October – 16th October 2022 at the University's campus.

    Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, Vice Chancellor (I/c) and Registrar, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad inaugurated the moot court competition, and the inaugural ceremony was presided over by Hon'ble Mr. Justice (retd.) Subhash Reddy, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India, as the Chief Guest. Justice Reddy appreciated the moot problem for testing the participants on complex issues of constitutional law of contemporary relevance. He highlighted that one of the themes of the problems – the constitutional challenge to the electoral bonds scheme – was especially relevant given that the Supreme Court had begun hearing the matter on October 14th itself.

    More than 70 teams from across the country took part in the competition, and 24 qualified for the oral rounds conducted on the campus. 8 of these teams qualified for the quarter-final rounds, and the best four qualified for the semi-finals. Jindal Global Law School (team comprising of Saksham Gadia, Yajas Achal, and Ishika Singla) and Symbiosis Law School, Pune (team comprising of Shelal Lodhi Rajput, Vibhor Chandra, and Nikunj Agarwal) emerged as the finalists. The team from Jindal Global Law School emerged victorious in the closely contested final round. The final round was argued before a panel of five judges – Mr. Gautam Bhatia, Mr. Alok Prasanna, Ms. Priya Iyengar, Prof. N. Vasanthi and Senior Advocate A. Kranti Kumar Reddy.

    The Valedictory Ceremony of the moot was held on October 16, 2022. In his address to the gathering, Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, Vice-Chancellor (I/c) & Registrar, NALSAR congratulated all the participating teams, laying special emphasis on the mooting culture promoted by NALSAR. Hon'ble Smt. Justice P.Madhavi Devi, Judge, High Court for the State of Telangana was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Ceremony. She spoke about her journey from being a lawyer to the Judge of Telangana High Court, and inspired the students to look forward to reaching high echelons in legal profession. She appreciated and congratulated all the participating teams and also appreciated the efforts made by the Organising Committee, Moot Court Committee, and Prof. V. Balakista Reddy, NALSAR in successfully hosting the 15th Edition of the B.R. Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition.
