Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, has launched “HNLU Gen Z–Lex”, a forward-looking digital platform aimed at bridging the long-felt gap between legal academia and professional practice. Conceived as a high-impact, regular engagement forum, the initiative seeks to move students seamlessly from statute to strategy, aligning classroom learning with the realities of contemporary legal practice.
The platform is designed to facilitate fortnightly, structured interactions between HNLU students and leading legal practitioners, law-firm partners, and industry experts. Through expert-led lectures and conversations, Gen Z–Lex will focus on emerging practice areas, evolving professional trends, and practical skills essential for career readiness in a fast-changing legal ecosystem.
The platform is steered by the Internship & Recruitment Coordination Committee (IRC) of HNLU, reinforcing the University's commitment to structured career development and professional exposure.
Inaugural Session
The inaugural session, titled “Beyond the Degree: Skills, Mindsets, and Career Readiness for the Next Generation of Lawyers,” was delivered by Ms. Samta Thapa, Co-founder & Partner, Agraami Consultancy, Mumbai. The session witnessed enthusiastic student participation and a rich exchange on professional preparedness, adaptability, and evolving career trajectories in law and allied sectors.
Launching the platform, Prof. (Dr.) V. C. Vivekanandan, Vice-Chancellor, HNLU, underscored the changing demands of legal education, invoking futurist Alvin Toffler's words:
“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.”
He noted that legal education must go beyond doctrinal knowledge, preparing students to be law-ready for a dynamic and technology-driven professional world. He described HNLU Gen Z–Lex not as a one-time event, but as a pedagogic intervention - a deliberate movement from classroom to courtroom, from pedagogy to practice, and from theory to professional transformation.
Ms.Samta Thapa, Co-founder & Partner, Agraami Consultancy, Mumbai was the invited speaker for the event with the inaugural session themed as - Beyond the Degree: Skills, Mindsets, and Career Readiness for the Next Generation of Lawyer. The highlights of her address focused on the essentials of getting prepared for the job opportunities with the help of a presentation focusing on the steps involved in recruitment. She emphasised on the need of having proper knowledge about the expectations of the recruiters and making tailored efforts accordingly. The speaker also discussed job interviews and the way a candidate's mindset plays a pivotal role in securing a position over and above the knowledge set that he may possess.
The initiative has been conceived and operationalised by the Recruitment Coordination framework under faculty stewardship of Dr. Ankit Awasthi and Dr. Mayank Shrivastava and will continue as a fortnightly series, featuring diverse professionals across legal practice, policy, consulting, and allied domains. The event had Dr. Deepak Kumar Srivastava welcoming the audience, with Dr Ankit informing about the programme, Dr Mayank proposing the vote of thanks, and Ms Vanya Singh and Ms Devanshi Tiwari anchoring the event.
With the launch of Gen Z–Lex, HNLU reaffirms its commitment to future-ready legal education, responsive to the aspirations of the next generation of lawyers.
