    Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies and Research (HILSR), Jamia Hamdard in collaboration with the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) organised the 2nd Hakeem Abdul Hameed National Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law Moot Court Competition from 23rd to 24th February 2024. The Moot proposition was based on varied contemporary areas, such as insolvency law entwined with international arbitration and competition legal framework.

    The Chief Guest for the Valedictory ceremony, Justice Dipak Misra, the 45th CJI, emphasised that defaulters' paradise has been lost after the commencement of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016. And, this has affirmed the faith of aggrieved persons in 'justice'. According to him, “Justice is the queen of all the virtues”. Further, he expressed the importance of 3C's - Courage, Calmness, and Composure to excel in the moot court competitions. While emphasizing that “competition doesn't end”, lordship urged the students to learn the art of developing 'original substantive and logical arguments'.

    The Competition began with a tribute to the legal luminary Senior Advocate Fali S. Nariman for his remarkable contribution in the legal field by observing two minutes' silence on his sad demise. The Chief Guest for the inaugural, Justice K.V. Vishwanathan, Judge, Supreme Court of India motivated the participants to present their best arguments and compete with zeal. It was followed by an address of the Guest of Honour, Prof. Y.S.R. Murthy, Vice - Chancellor, RV University.

    After two days of rigorous oral rounds, on 25th February, the Valedictory ceremony witnessed the presence of the Chief Guest, Justice Dipak Misra, Former CJI, Supreme Court of India, the Guest of Honour, Peeyush Pandey, Registrar, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal and Ritesh Kevadia, Executive Director, IBBI, Prof. (Dr.) B.T. Kaul, Janab Hammad Ahmad, Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard , Prof Saleena Basheer, Dean and Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kr. Mishra, Professor of Practice.

    Mr. Ritesh Kevadia, Executive Director, IBBI congratulated the HILSR, Jamia Hamdard for the success of the competition and encouraged the students to intern and opt for specially tailored insolvency centered courses to master this burgeoning field of law.

    Thereafter, Prof. (Dr.) M. Afshar Alam, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard addressed the gathering by underlining how moot court competitions enable the law students to develop their research and oral advocacy skills. He lauded the Moot Court Committee, HILSR for organising the event.

    Symbiosis Law School, Noida emerged as the winner of the 2nd Hakeem Abdul Hameed National Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law Moot Court Competition. Government Law College, Mumbai and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonipat, Haryana were declared as 1st and 2nd runner up respectively.

    Best Speaker Award - Abhinav Mishra from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University, Sonipat, Haryana

    Best Memorial Award - Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University

    Best Researcher Award - Sofiya Naaz from Vivek College of Law, Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh)
