  • Two-Day Training Programme On Cyber Crime Investigation And Evidencing For NIA Law Officers At RGNUL

    The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab organized two-day Training Programme on Cyber Crime Investigation and Evidencing. The objective of the programme was to introduce Law Officers of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to "Cyber Crime Investigation and Evidencing".

    Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor, RGNUL deliberated on cyber-crime investigation and evidencing in the larger context of criminal justice during the inaugural session. Dr. Pavan Duggal, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, spoke about the scope, implementation and controversies in cyber laws and case laws. In his inaugural address, Dr. Duggal provided an overview of changing nature of cyber laws. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. (Dr.) Anand Pawar, Registrar, RGNUL.

    In the technical sessions Dr. Jagdeep Singh, Assistant Professor at SLIET, Longowal talked about the basics of digital forensics. His practical presentation of the various components of computer networking provided foundational understanding of complex resources such as IP and MAC Address, Domain Name Systems, HTTP, FTP, HTTPS, Gateways, Routers. Dr. Ivneet Walia, Associate Professor, RGNUL spoke about Cyber Crime. She alluded to a wide gamut of pertinent issues ranging from psychology of cyber criminals/ victims and challenges in digitalised world. Mr. Nato Singh, Assistant Director and HOD of Digital Forensic, CFSL Guwahati elaborated on process of communication (accused/suspect over various apps using virtual numbers).

    On the second day, Mr. Nisheeth Dixit, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, and Cyber Consultant expanded on various facets of cyber laws and cyber-crimes in India. Mr. Samir Datt, CEO and Founder of Foundation Futuristic Technologies Pvt. Ltd. explained the basics of CDR/IPDR and Tower Dumps. He focussed on the usages of social media for gathering intelligence and evidence, significance of imaging/hashing/write block in forensics and investigation of cases over voice internet protocols.

    Prof. (Dr.) G. S. Bajpai presided over valedictory session. Justice Paramjeet Singh Dhaliwal (Retd.) was the Guest of Honour.

    24 participants attended the programme. The programme was coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Mohan Sharma, Advisor, Forensic Division; Dr. Ivneet Walia, Associate Professor of Law; Dr. Siddharth Dahiya, Deputy Registrar and Mr. Ankit Kaushik, Assistant Professor of Law.
