ENSEMBLE 2027: Two-Day Interdisciplinary National Conference On “Performing Equality: Reimagining Inclusive Artistic Spaces In The Spirit Of Tagore”

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS), Kolkata, is pleased to announce ENSEMBLE 2027, a Two-Day Interdisciplinary National Conference on “Performing Equality: Reimagining Inclusive Artistic Spaces in the Spirit of Tagore”, organised by Sangit Bhavana, Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, in collaboration with St. Xavier's University, Kolkata; The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata; Centre for Technology, Entertainment and Sports Law (CTESL), NUJS; Kolkata Anandam for Equality and Justice (KAEJ), Kolkata; and Unmute.help.
Scheduled to be held in Hybrid Mode on 4–5 January 2027, ENSEMBLE 2027 seeks to foster interdisciplinary dialogue on equality, inclusion, dignity, safety, accessibility, and social justice in the performing arts, while engaging with the enduring ideas and legacy of Rabindranath Tagore.
The conference will bring together scholars, academicians, practitioners, artists, researchers, students, and institutions from diverse disciplines, including performing arts, law, education, public policy, disability studies, gender studies, and allied fields. It will examine contemporary challenges in creating safe, accessible, and equitable artistic spaces and explore legal, institutional, educational, and policy-based responses.
The conference invites submissions on themes including Tagore and inclusive performing arts; sexual harassment and power hierarchies in performing institutions; disability and accessibility in performing arts spaces; mental health, trauma and well-being of performing artists; transgender and LGBTQIA+ inclusion; and education, policies, laws and institutional practices relating to safe and inclusive artistic environments.

Researchers, academicians, practitioners, students, artists, and other interested participants are invited to submit their abstracts and be part of this interdisciplinary conversation on reimagining performing spaces through the principles of equality and inclusion.
