In wake of the alleged rape of a lady lawyer by a senior colleague in his chamber in Saket court complex two days ago, Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal on Monday morning convened a meeting of judges of the high court and district court.

ACJ Mittal met the administrative committee of Delhi High Court, which comprises the seven senior-most judges of the high court, the District and Sessions judges of all districts, the Registrar-General and Registrar (Vigilance) of the high court.

In the meeting, a concerned ACJ Mittal took stock of the security arrangements in the courts and expressed concern about the safety of both lawyers as well as litigants, the registry informed.

The chief was informed about the arrest of the accused advocate PK Lal and the recording of the statement of the survivor-advocate under Section 164 CrPC.

The ACJ has now asked the District and Sessions judges of all districts, being the senior-most judges of the district, to have regular interaction with the Bar and to sensitize them about various issues emanating from Saturday’s incident.

It is to be noted that on Saturday evening, a 32-year-old lady lawyer was allegedly raped by advocate PK Lal in his chamber in Saket district court complex.

The accused was arrested based on the survivor’s complaint and the Bar has suspended his membership.
