At Rouse Avenue, Special Judge O.P Saini has reserved the Order on an application filed by P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram seeking anticipatory bail in the Aircel Maxis case.

The proceedings began with the Additional Solicitor General KM Natraj asking for another adjournment in the matter. He said that since the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the INX Media matter on the 26th of this month, the present case should be heard only after that. He said that the substantial issue in INX Media case is also an issue in the present, as noted by the High Court as well in its recent order denying the anticipatory bail. Moreover, it was also argued that there have been a change in circumstances that warrants an adjournment.

The counsels for defence, Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhavi, criticised the ASG for seeking another adjournment. 'It is unfortunate for an ASG to say that he's not ready to argue the case. Accused is getting prejudiced each day', Sibal remarked.

The court rejected the plea of the ASG and reserved the order and set September 3 as the date of pronouncement. Till that date, both the father and the son will continue to enjoy interim protection. The court said,

'It would be embarrassing to grant any more adjournments, you can come and argue anytime before September 3'.

Both P Chidambaram and Karti Chidambaram have been enjoying interim protection in Aircel Maxis case since last year owing to consecutive adornments by ED and CBI. Moreover, despite getting the sanction from the Central Government, the cognizance of the chargesheet has also not been taken yet.
