The Allahabad High Court has stayed the transfer of a 26-year-old UP Police constable Manoj Kumar who, in August 2022, protested against the alleged sub-standard food being served at the mess at Firozabad Police Line.

The bench of Justice Pankaj Bhatia stayed his transfer and sought a counter affidavit from the UP Government in 4 weeks. The court has now posted the matter for further hearing on February 28, 2022.

Essentially, a video of Manoj Kumar had gone viral on social media a few months back in which he was seen raising questions on the quality of food being served at the Firozabad Police Line mess. Soon after that incident, he was transferred to Ghazipur district, which is 600 km away from Firozabad.

Therefore, challenging his transfer order, he moved the High Court with a writ petition alleging that the transfer order was passed as he had protested against the sub-standard food being served at the mess at Firozabad Police Line.

Considering the submissions made by him in his writ plea, the Court observed that the matter required consideration and hence, directing the state government to file an affidavit in the matter, the Court stayed his transfer till the next date of listing (February 28, 2022).
