Mumbai Court Sends Bookie Anil Jaisinghani To Police Custody Till March 27 In Case Filed By Amruta Fadnavis

A Special court in Mumbai sent Anil Jaisinghani, a bookie, to police custody till March 27 in the case filed by Amruta Fadnavis, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.The court also extended his daughter Aniksha Jaisinghani’s remand till March 24.Fadnavis has alleged that Aniksha Jaisinghani, a designer, attempted to bribe her with Rs 1 crore to seek her “intervention” in a criminal case involving her father who is a bookie.Anil Jaisinghani, who has been absconding for years in a number of cases, was arrested on March 19 from Gujarat in the presence of Gujarat police. His cousin Nirmal was also arrested. The court today sent his cousin to police custody till March 27 as well.Aniksha was been booked under Sections 120B IPC and Sections 8 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.During the hearing today, Chief Public Prosecutor Jaising Desai argued that there is a conspiracy by the accused persons and their custody is required to unearth it. Further, Aniksha was in touch with her father when he was absconding in a number of cases against him. The accused wanted to frame a public servant through the wife, Desai said, adding that they tried to extort Rs 10 crores from Amruta, Desai said.Senior Advocate Mrigendra Singh for the Jaisinghanis argued that the arrest was illegal. The charge of extortion was added after Aniksha was arrested despite the alleged incidents having occurred earlier, he argued. Anil was in custody for thirty-six hours without transit remand, Singh submitted. He claimed that the Gujarat police did not arrest Anil Jaisinghani despite there being a seven year old case against him in Ahmedabad as their Deputy CM’s wife is not interested party in the case.According to the FIR, Anishka was in contact with Amruta for the past 16 months and also visited her residence.After gaining Amruta's trust, Anishka offered to provide her with information on some bookies through which, she claimed, they could make money. She then directly offered Amruta Rs 1 crore to get her father off the hook in a police case, as per the FIR.The woman then allegedly sent Amruta video clips, voice notes and many messages from an unknown number. She and her father indirectly threatened and conspired against Amruta.
