The Andhra Pradesh Government on Wednesday appointed Jasti Naga Bhushan as the Additional Advocate-General of the State.

Naga Bhushan is the son of former Supreme Court judge Jasti Chelameswar.

He will assist Advocate General S. Sriram in defending cases against the State Government.

The development assumes significance in the backdrop of several legal proceedings pending against the Andhra Government, both at the High Court and before the Supreme Court, including cases pertaining to the Amravati Land Scam case.

Recently, a division bench of the High Court decided to examine if there is a "constitutional breakdown" in the State.

A notification issued by the Law Department of the State Government on December 9 states:

"Under Article 162 of the Constitution of India, Government hereby appoint Sri JASTI NAGA BHUSHAN, Advocate as Additional Advocate-General for the State of Andhra Pradesh with effect from the date of assumption of charge of office.

The conditions of service, fees and other allowances of the Additional Advocate General shall be in accordance with the orders issued in the G.Os first and second read above as amended from time to time."
