Arnab Goswami, Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, has been summoned by Judicial First Class Magistrate's Court, Kannur in Kerala in a criminal defamation case filed for allegedly humiliating Keralites during a channel discussion.

The complaint was filed by P Sasi, CPI(M) leader and president of People's Law Foundation, alleging that Goswami had termed Keralites "shameless people", while debating the issue whether central government prevented UAE government from giving flood relief to Kerala.

"This group is shameless, is the most shameless bunch of Indians I have ever seen, they have gone around spreading the lie religiously. I don't know what they get for it. Whether they get paid for it? Do they get paid money for abusing their own country? Are they part of a group who are they funded by? Point is it is a conspiracy to malign India", Arnab had allegedly said in the context of the protests amongst sections of Keralites against centre in the backdrop of UAE government deciding to refrain from giving aid.

Alleging that these statements insulted and humiliated Keralites, the complaint was filed.

The Court has directed him to appear on June 20.

Arnab was summoned earlier by a court in Thiruvananthapuram in a criminal defamation case filed by Sashi Tharoor for statements against him in relation to the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar. These proceedings were later stayed by the High Court of Kerala in Goswami's petition.
