The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) has formed a committee to examine the newly notified Bar Council of India Rules for Registration and Regulation of Foreign Lawyers and Foreign Law Firms in India, 2022.

According to the press release issued today, the Committee will examine the Rules in consultation with the Presidents or Secretaries of the Bar Associations and other stakeholders.

The BCD said that “future course of action” shall be decided after consideration of the Committee’s report.

“BCD expresses its apprehension about the real intentions behind the rules notified by the BCI for entry of foreign lawyers, as there are so many ambiguities pertaining to entry of foreign lawyers and the reciprocity, etc,” the press release said.

Yesterday, the Bar Council of India issued a press release putting out certain clarifications to put to rest certain “misapprehensions” and “misinformation” about the newly notified Rules.

The BCI said that the Rules would function in a very restricted sphere and the decision is not going to impact the advocates practicing in India.

While clarifying that it stands committed to protecting and safeguarding the interest and welfare of advocates in the country, BCI requested the entire advocate fraternity to welcome these Rules in national interest.
