The Bhopal District Court, on Wednesday (May 20), has partly allowed the application filed by the parents of Twisha Sharma, rejecting their prayer for a second post-mortem by AIIMS or any other certified medical body, but accepted their prayer for preservation of the body under -80 degree Celsius.
Judicial Magistrate of First Class Anudita Gupta further directed the police officials to find such a facility that can preserve the body, after taking note of a report of AIIMS regarding the lack of facilities to preserve a body beyond -4 degrees Celsius.
Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old woman, was found dead in her husband's residence on May 12. Subsequently, an FIR was filed against her husband, Samarth Singh, who is a practising advocate and her mother-in-law, who is a retired judge of the Bhopal District Court and is currently serving as Chairperson of the District Consumer Court.
For context, the husband is booked for Sections 80(2) (dowry death), 85 (cruelty) and 3(5) (common intention) and Sections 3 (giving or taking dowry) and 4 (demanding dowry) of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
On May 15, the court granted anticipatory bail to Twisha's mother-in-law. However, Additional Sessions Judge Pallavi Dwivedi denied ancillary bail to her husband on May 18. The court noted that from the contents of the FIR and WhatsApp chats, the main allegations appeared to have been directed at Singh.
Per the court order, the couple had met through a matrimonial website and got married on December 9, 2025. Twisha, before her marriage, worked as a model and actress, working in Telugu and other language films.
It further stated that the husband and mother-in-law claimed that Twisha showed signs of marijuana withdrawal and that the same was the reason doctors had advised her to abort a pregnancy.
The applicant also stated that while returning from the hospital, Twisha packed her bags to go to her parents' house in Noida, stating that she "could no longer pretend to be a housewife".
However, Twisha's parents claim that their daughter was being harassed for dowry demand and that while Twisha was pregnant, the husband and mother-in-law had refused to recognise the paternity, and forced her to abort.
