The Bombay High Court has issued notice to actor Armaan Kohli on his ex-girlfriend's application to restore the case she filed against him in 2018 while also seeking contempt action against him.

The Mumbai Police registered an FIR against Kohli under sections 323 (hurt), 326 (grievous hurt), 504 and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC on June 3, 2018, after his long time partner Neeru Randhawa accused him of assault. She took 15 stitches on her head after the incident.

However, days after being arrested, Kohli paid Randhawa Rs 50 lakh and approached the HC to quash the FIR. In addition, two other post-dated cheques amounting to 50 lakh were given to her. With Randhawa's consent, the FIR was quashed on June 15, 2018.

During the proceedings, the court also took an undertaking from Kohli that he regretted his actions and would not repeat such behaviour in the future.

Randhawa filed an application in the HC after both the cheques bounced in 2018 itself. She sought to restore the FIR and contempt action against Kohli as well as his brother who issued the cheques.

During the hearing before a bench of Justices Prasanna Varale and Anil Kilor earlier this month, Randhawa's counsel Kushal Mor explained the circumstances under which she was constrained to approach the court.

He informed the bench that Kohli's bed-ridden brother had passed away while the actor was now in prison in connection with an illicit drugs case. The court then issued a fresh notice to Kohli and permitted Randhawa to physically serve him at Mumbai Central Prison regarding restoring the FIR.

As for Randhawa's prayer for contempt, the court was disinclined to consider the issue in the present proceedings.

"After considering the grievance raised in this application, we are of the considered view that if there is breach of any undertaking given to this Court by Respondent No.2(Kohli) at the time of disposing of the writ petition, the remedy by way of contempt petition is available to the Applicant, and therefore, we are not inclined to consider prayer clause (b) in this application."
