The Bihar State Legal Services Authority (BSLSA), in collaboration with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India and NALSA, organized a comprehensive 40-hour mediation training for Judicial Officers of the District Judiciary. The training, held from March 18th to March 22nd, 2024, took place at the Bihar Judicial Academy, Patna.

Under the esteemed guidance of Justice K. Vinod Chandran, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and Patron-in-Chief of BSLSA, along with Justice Ashutosh Kumar, JAD-1 of the Patna High Court and Executive Chairman of BSLSA, the initiative aimed at promoting the amicable resolution of pending disputes in the Civil Courts of Bihar.

The MCPC, renowned for its successful court-integrated mediation process since 2005, and the Patna High Court Mediation Committee approved the 40-hour training program, which saw the participation of esteemed Senior Trainers, Mr. Sunil Kumar Aggarwal and Mr. Harish Dudani, nominated by MCPC.

During the training sessions, emphasis was placed on the techniques and tools of mediation, focusing on exploring settlement possibilities between parties. Essential aspects such as active listening, communication skills, negotiations, and exploring options were meticulously detailed, supplemented by role-playing exercises to illustrate concepts effectively.

Moreover, the role and duties of a Mediator, along with precautions to be observed during mediation proceedings, were thoroughly explained over the five-day training period. The program fostered an interactive environment, allowing participants and trainers to exchange views and address queries regarding the mediation process and its implementation.

The training program concluded on March 22nd, 2024, with the distribution of certificates by Shilpee Soniraj, Member Secretary of BSLSA. The event marked a significant step towards equipping Judicial Officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to facilitate constructive mediation and promote dispute resolution within the legal framework of Bihar.
