    The Karnataka Government on Thursday directed strict penal action against landlords forcing doctors, paramedics & healthcare personnel to vacate their rented residences amid the Coronavirus scare.

    The order states that, "such behavior amounts to obstructing public servant in discharging their duties" and in light of the invocation of the KarnatakA Epidemic Diseases (COVID19) Regulations, 2020 under the Epidemic Diseaes Act, 1987 & Hyderabad Indectious Disease Act, 1950 for prevention and containement of COVID-19, the order states that,

    "strict penal action against such landlords / house-owners under the relevant provisions of the law and submit an Action Taken Report on a daily basis to the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department"

    Amid several reports across the country of healthcare professionals being harassed by people in light of misapprehensions of their susceptibility to Coronavirus, the Delhi Government had also issued a similar order on March 24, 2020.

    In related news, several cases reported across the country also highlight the safety of health workers who are on the frontline of treating patients suffering from the deadly infection.
