Social media influencer Sapna Gill and 3 others were granted bail by the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate's court on Monday in the Prithvi Shaw Selfie Case.

Magistrate CP Kashid passed the order. The four were arrested by the Oshiwara police last week and were booked for rioting, extortion and criminal intimidation following a brawl with India cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his friends over refusal of a second selfie.

The four accused are Sapna Gill, Shobhit Thakur, Sahil Singh and Rudra Solanki.

Today, all the four accused were first produced before the court wherein the police sought their further custody. However, the court remanded them to judicial custody following which they applied for bail.

Advocate Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh representing Gill argued Section 284 of the IPC was not applicable against them. Another section 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) — which the police added subsequently was also not applicable as there wasn't any mention of death threats etc, he said.

The prosecution represented by public prosecutor Atia Sheikh opposed the remand saying investigation in the case was not completed. She argued that the accused had chased Shaw to take revenge as he refused to give a selfie. They could have even killed him( Shaw) she added.

After hearing both sides the court granted bail to Gill and the others.

    Background

According to the complaint filed by Shaw’s friend Ashish Yadav, the cricketer and a friend were having dinner at Hotel Sahara Star’s cafe on February 15, when Gill and her friends came to Shaw for a selfie. While he initially obliged, he subsequently refused and an altercation ensued.

Yadav claimed that after dinner, they saw a man standing outside with a baseball bat and he hit the car's windshield with the bat.

While they asked Shaw to leave, around 4am, Yadav said they noticed men on motorcycles etc following them. They later stopped the car.

Yadav claimed that the car's windshield was broken and Gill also demanded money and threatened him with a false case.
