The Madras High Court on Thursday (01st April) refused to urgently hear DMK's plea challenging the Election Commission's order barring party's deputy general secretary A Raja from campaigning for 48 hours.

The Election Commission had also delisted Raja from the DMK star campaigner list.

On Thursday, a mention was made before the Bench of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy informing the judges about the ECI had passed such an order pursuant to his derogatory remarks made against AIADMK leader and Sitting Chief Minister E Palaniswamy.

It was submitted before the Court by DMK's counsel, Senior Advocate R Shanmugasundaram that a writ petition in connection with the matter would be filed before the end of the day and further requested the court to take up the plea for hearing on Friday as a special case.

However, the Bench led by the Chief Justice refused to hear the matter on an urgent basis.

It may be noted that DMK deputy general secretary Raja had been accused of allegedly violating provisions of the Model Code of Conduct while making remarks against the CM and his mother and thus, w complaint was made by the AIADMK in connection with Raja's 27th March remarks.

Reprimanding him for his "obscene speech lowering the dignity of motherhood', the Election commission had passed an order, addressing Raja stating,

"The commission also advises you to be watchful and not to make intemperate, indecent, derogatory, obscene remarks and lower the dignity of women in future during the election campaign".

Later on, issuing a clarification on Social Media Platform Twitter, Raja said that his remarks were "misrepresented" and only portions of it were carried by media organizations, and apologized to the chief minister if he was hurt and also stated that he did not intend to hurt anyone.
