    The Delhi Commission for Women has taken suo moto cognizance on reports of suicide attempted by a female resident doctor of AIIMS, allegedly due to repeated sexual harassment and caste discrimination by a senior faculty.

    In face of the seriousness of the matter, the Commission has sought a detailed action taken report from the Director, AIIMS.

    On Friday, a dental surgeon at AIIMS Centre for Dental Education and Research (CIDER), Delhi attempted suicide allegedly due to caste and gender based discrimination by a senior faculty member. She alleged that despite several complaints to the administration, no action was taken.

    In view thereof, the Delhi Commission for Women has instituted an inquiry into the matter and sought the following information from the organization:

    1. Copies of all complaints received from the victim till date and action taken report on each.
    2. Whether the matter was dealt by the Internal Complaints Committee. If not. Please provide the reasons for the same. If yes, please provide the report of the committee.
    3. Details of steps taken to assist the victim in seeking legal remedies for the aforementioned harassment.
    4. Detailed action taken report in the matter.

    "This is a very serious matter. It is critical that exemplary action is taken against the perpetrators of caste and gender based violence," the Commission said.
