Delhi Court Acquits Haryana MLA Gopal Kanda In 2012 Air Hostess Geetika Sharma Suicide Case

A Delhi Court on Tuesday acquitted Sirsa MLA and Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) chief Gopal Kanda in the 2012 abetment to suicide case of Geetika Sharma, a 23-year-old former air hostess in his MDLR Airlines.

Special judge Vikas Dhull of Rouse Avenue Courts also acquitted the co-accused Aruna Chadha in the case.

Sharma committed suicide on the intervening night of August 4-5, 2012, at her residence. She left a suicide note wherein she held Kanda and Chadha, who was then the HR manager, responsible for compelling her to end her life.

In August 2012, Sharma’s mother lodged an FIR for the offences under Sections 306 and 34 of Indian Penal Code, 1860.

Kanda was arrested on August 07, 2012 and Chadha was arrested one day later. They were released on bail later.

A chargesheet was then filed for the offence under Sections 306, 506, 201, 120B, 466, 467, 468, 469, 471 and 34 of IPC and Section 66A of Information Technology Act.
