"No One Is Above The Law": Delhi Court Directs Appearance Of Singer Honey Singh On September 3 In Domestic Violence Case By Wife

A Delhi Court has directed Bollywood Singer and Actor Honey Singh to appear before it on September 3 in connection with the domestic violence case filed against him by his wife, Shalini Talwar, after he failed to appear today before the Court citing poor health. Singh had failed to appear before the Court today citing poor health. pic.twitter.com/PZS7v1IEw3— Live Law (@LiveLawIndia) August 28, 2021 While the counsel appearing for Singh sought exemption from his personal appearance today, the Court said that no one is above the law and directed Singh to personally appear before it on the next date of hearing.The Court also sought medical report and income tax return documents of Singh. Earlier, the Court had passed interim orders restraining him from disposing off his jointly owned property, stridhan owned by his wife, etc.The applicant wife has approached the Court under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 alleging that Singh and his family members were brash and violent towards her and that Singh has a history of criminal intimidation, hurt, brutal violence towards people who do not give into his demands.It has also been alleged by the applicant that she is living under a constant fear as the respondents have threatened her of physical harm."The Respondent No. 1, 2, 3 & 4 colluded and mentally, physically, emotionally, economically, sexually assaulted the Applicant. The Respondents also criminally intimidated the Applicant, caused her extreme duress and torture. The Applicant has suffered immense pain and hurt from the respondents throughout the marriage," the plea read.Further alleging that Singh and his family members have indulged in cruelty and tortured her immensely, the applicant says that she is entitled to a compensation from them."The Respondent No. 1 showed no shame in attacking, browbeating, manhandling, cheating, being disloyal and causing irreparable harm to the woman he was supposed to cherish and protect," the plea read further.In view of this, the applicant sought a direction to Singh to pay her rent of Rs. 5 lacs per month. She also sought to restrain the respondents from disposing off or selling the matrimonial home or her stridhan.Additionally, an interim compensation of Rs.10 crores is also sought from Singh and his family.Appearance: Sandeep Kapur, Senior Partner, Karanjawala & Co., as well as a team from Karanjawala & Co., comprising of Niharika Karanjawala, Apoorva Pandey, Gudipati Kashyap and Kallakuri Sharat Kumar appeared for applicant.Case Title: Shalini Tanwar v.
