Delhi Court Closes ANI's Copyright Infringement Suit Against YouTuber Thugesh After Settlement

A Delhi Court has closed the suit filed by news agency Asian News International (ANI) alleging copyright infringement by YouTuber “Thugesh Unfiltered Channel”, following settlement between the parties. District Judge Pulastya Pramachala of Patiala House Courts decreed the suit against Thugesh, whose real name is Mahesh Rajesh Keshwala.The counsel appearing for both the parties said that the matter had been settled between them and that there was nothing more to be claimed against the YouTuber. “In view of joint statement and the agreement between the parties recorded in joint application under Order XXIII Rule 3 read with Section 151 CPC, dated 04.11.2025, the suit filed by plaintiff is decreed against defendant no.1...This suit is decreed under Order XXIII Rule 3 CPC,” the Court said. “In view of Section 89 CPC read with Section 16 of Court Fee Act and the judgment referred above, entire court fee paid by plaintiff be refunded. Necessary certificate be issued,” it added. ANI had sought permanent, mandatory injunction and damages for “copyright infringement, piracy, plagiarism, unjust enrichment and other wrongs” against Thugesh. The suit sought an injunction against Thugesh from posting, publishing, uploading, distributing, re-publishing on any platform or using in any manner, the copyrighted work or content of ANI, including the videos published on the YouTube channel of the news agency.ANI's suit mentioned four videos that were allegedly used by Thugesh on his YouTube channel without authorisation of the news agency. As per ANI, the said videos were unauthorized reproductions of its original works and therefore amount to copyright infringement.It was alleged that the publication of the allegedly infringing Videos of ANI was a calculated and deliberate act by Thugesh to garner more views and reap monetary benefits at the cost of the news agency.Advocates Ekssha Kashyap and Parth Yadav appeared for ANI.Advocate Nakul Gandhi appeared for Thugesh.
