A Delhi Court has granted regular bail to political-consultancy firm I-PAC's co-founder and director Vinesh Chandel in a money laundering case.
Additional Sessions Judge Amit Bansal of Patiala House Courts passed the order.
Notably, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not oppose the grant of bail to Chandel, who is in jail in a PMLA case linked to an alleged coal scam in West Bengal.
Noting the said stand, the court granted him regular bail in the matter.
On Tuesday, his interim bail was rejected on the ground that it did not meet the threshold of exceptional humanitarian grounds.
ED had arrested Chandel on April 13 evening after questioning him in the matter. This was days ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections. He is a 33 per cent shareholder of I-PAC.
Chandel was remanded to judicial custody on April 23.
On April 14, ED was permitted to question Chandel in its custody for 10 days. The Court had then said there were reasons to believe that he was actively involved in processes and activities connected with the generation, diversion and possession of proceeds of crime worth several crores.
