A Delhi Court has restrained Times Now Navbharat news channel from telecasting a news under the heading “Operation Paap” against Aam Aadmi Party MLA Naresh Balyan.

ASCJ Ajay Kumar Malik of Dwarka Courts has passed the order in a defamation suit filed by the AAP leader.

The news claimed that Balyan and a gangster were talking about extorting two businessmen in an audio clip released by the channel.

The first interim order was passed on August 17 restraining the channel from broadcasting the news till August 18. Yesterday, the interim order was extended by the court till August 23.

In view of above submissions, defendant M/s Times Now Navbharat/Times Group Media Channel is hereby directed to not to broadcast/telecast/print the news/statement/opinion under the heading of operation ‘PAAP’ against the plaintiff till next date of hearing [August 18],” the court had ordered on August 17.

During the hearing yesterday, the counsel representing Times Now Navbharat told court that the news channel complied with the order passed on August 17 and undertook not to broadcast the news till further orders.

As the counsel sought a short adjournment for filing the reply, the court ordered:

At request and convenience of Ld counsel for defendant, matter is adjourned for 23.08.2023 at 12.00 noon. Interim order [restraining the news channel] to continue till next date of hearing in view of statement given by Ld counsel for defendant.

It is Balyan’s case that he and his family were shocked by the news broadcasted by the news channel under heading “Sarji ka Vidhayak Gangster ka Sahay” which was false and had caused great loss to his reputation, including that of his family.
