Delhi Court Seeks Action Taken Report On Complaint Against Prime Minister Narendra Modi Over Alleged Hate Speech

A Delhi Court on Friday sought action taken report from the Delhi Police on a complaint against Prime Minister Narendra Modi over alleged hate speech given by him on April 21 in Rajasthan. The complainant, Qurban Ali, has alleged that the speech has been made in violation of the Model Code of Conduct, promotes enmity between religious groups and makes statements that are imputations and assertions prejudicial to national integration.Metropolitan Magistrate Kartik Taparia of Saket Courts heard the matter today on maintainability and directed the concerned SHO to file an Action Taken Report. The court sought Delhi Police's response on the following aspects: - Whether any complaint has been filed and what action has been taken on the same. - Whether any inquiry was conducted on the complaint given by the complainant?- Whether commission of any cognizable offence was found during the inquiry?- If, commission of any cognizable offence was found, whether any FIR has been registered by the police?The matter will now be heard on June 05.The complaint submits that the Prime Minister “deliberately” employed a language that insults religious feelings of the Muslim community and promotes enmity between the Hindu community and the Muslim community.Ali has alleged that Modi, in the speech, claimed that if the Congress party comes to power, it aims to distribute even the gold and mangalsutra to the members of the Muslim community.“Even after the communal propaganda of Muslims having more children' been busted time and again as not only being communal but also having no basis in facts or reality, the same anti-Muslim propaganda has been perpetuated in the speech against the Indian Muslim community by the Prime Minister,” the complaints submits. It adds that Modi's reference to Muslims as "infiltrators" has been used as a communal slur towards the vilification of Muslims by “anti-social elements in the past.”The statements made in the speech satisfy all the ingredients of the captioned provisions under the Indian Penal Code, 1860 and Representation of the People Act,” the complaint reads. Ali urged the Delhi Police to immediately register an FIR in respect of the speech delivered by Modi and take other appropriate and necessary action against him. Recently, the Delhi High Court dismissed a seeking action against the Prime Minister for the speech in question. It had also dismissed a plea seeking to disqualify Modi for six years for allegedly seeking votes for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the name of Hindu as well as Sikh deities and place of worships.
