'Much Care Taken By Centre & State In Controlling Covid-19': Delhi High Court Closes Case For Monitoring Healthcare Facilities

The Delhi High Court on Thursday observed that it no longer requires to monitor the medical and health facilities in the national capital with respect to treatment of Covid-19, given the efforts put in by the Central and the State Government."Much care has been taken by both the central and the state government in controlling Covid-19 by providing several facilities to patients, providing admissions at Covid-19 hospital, distributing medicines, administering free vaccine, etc.," observed Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh.It noted that the government has provided adequate healthcare facilities and is presently providing free vaccines to the public.Central Government counsel Anil Soni also submitted that the petition was filed in March 2020, when the pandemic had just hit, and as of today adequate measures have been taken by the authorities to contain the virus.The Court therefore ordered that there is no reason to further monitor the case filed by Advocate Triveni Potekar for effective measures to combat coronavirus, and that a fresh petition may be preferred in case of "genuine difficulty"."I have heard the counsel for Respondent no. 1 who submitted that this petition has become infructuous as the same was filed in the initial days of Covid-19 in Delhi...the program for free vaccine is also going on," the Bench added.It is significant to note that another bench of the Delhi High Court, comprising of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh is also dealing with a bunch of petitions concerning the Covid-19 situation in the national capital.In the previous hearing in those petitions, the said bench was apprised by the Delhi Government regarding persons who are entitled to an ex gratia compensation amount of Rs. 50,000 for the deaths within their families due to covid or covid related issues.Case Title: Triveni Poteker v.
