Delhi High Court Concludes 90 Days Special Mediation Drive, 4316 Matters Settled

The Delhi High Court has successfully concluded the 90 days Special Mediation Drive, “Mediation For the Nation”, organized by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). The mediation drive was conducted from July 01 to September 30. It was organized in association with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) under the guidance of Chief Justice of India, Justice BR Gavai and Justice Surya Kant- Executive Chairman of NALSA and Chairman of MCPC. The special mediation drive aimed at promoting amicable settlement of pending disputes through structured mediation across all Taluka Courts, District Courts and High Courts of India. It resulted in significant reduction in case pendency and delivering timely justice to the litigants.The mediation drive was conducted under the guidance of Delhi High Court Chief Justice, Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, and other judges- Justice Navin Chawla and Justice C Hari Shankar. As per a press release issued by the Delhi High Court Registry, wide publicity was given to the special mediation drive through advertisements, posters, banners and display of public notices on the websites of the Delhi High Court, District Courts and of Samadhan. “To make sure that the normal functioning of the High Court does not suffer, Registrars and Joint Registrars of the Delhi High Court were assigned the task of identifying the suitable cases for mediation and conduct referral proceedings and for effective coordination and smooth management of the drive, Nodal officer was appointed,” the press release states. It adds that the Mediation Centres witnessed enthusiastic participation of parties, advocates, and trained mediators, working in a collaborative spirit to ensure effective resolution of civil, family, and commercial disputes. Innovative measures such as online mediation sessions, focused settlement drives, and personalized case follow-ups were instrumental in achieving this outcome. A total of 28,141 matters were referred for mediation in the Delhi High Court and the Delhi District Courts out of which, 4,316 matters were settled and 13,938 matters referred during the drive are still pending for settlement. “These figures show that the mediation drive was a huge success. Mr. Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre, present Chairman, Overseeing Committee of the Centre and Mr.Justice Vivek Chaudhary, present Chairman, Mediation Monitoring Committee for the Delhi District Courts, also gave their invaluable inputs so that the drive is concluded on a positive note,” the press release states. “The Special Mediation Drive has set a strong precedent in demonstrating the effectiveness of mediation in addressing the growing pendency in the judicial system while empowering parties to resolve disputes amicably. The success of this Special Mediation Drive is a testimony to the collective vision, leadership, and dedication of all stakeholders, reaffirming mediation as a robust mechanism for dispute resolution and a significant step in reducing pendency of cases in courts,” it adds.
