The Delhi High Court on Monday granted interim bail to former Congress MLA Asif Mohammad Khan who is accused of allegedly misbehaving with a police officer, subject to the condition that he will offer services at an adult education centre.

Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma noted that Khan is an alumni of Jamia Millia Islamia University and directed him to offer the service thrice a week.

The FIR was registered by Delhi police at Shaheen Bagh police station under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 341 (wrongful restraint), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) of Indian Penal Code, 1860.

The court was hearing the bail plea moved by Khan after he was recently denied bail by a trial court.

Khan has been accused of allegedly misbehaving with a police officer in the Shaheen Bagh area. He was arrested on January 05.

Justice Sharma asked Khan to mark his presence before the SHO of the concerned police station every alternate day. The court also directed him to go to the police station “without his supporters.”

Khan has also been asked to approach the member Secretary of Delhi State Legal Service Authority (DSLSA) for rendering his service at an adult education centre which is run by a recognized NGO, three times a week for two hours.

The court also clarified that in case Khan is found indulging in a similar offence, the State shall be at liberty to seek cancellation of the interim bail.
